Get to know Nmap and explain it
Nmap stands for Network Mapper, an open source tool used specifically for network exploration and network security auditing. Gordon "Fyodor" Lyon was the first person to develop Nmap on September 1, 1997, published on a website that provides articles on computer security, Phrack Magazine Issue 51. The original name is Gordon Lyon (also known under the pseudonym Fyooneynet.org) for Vaskovich). Is a network security expert, open source programmer, and writer. In addition to developing Nmap, Fyodor is one of the founding members of the Honeynet project (http://honeynet.org), an organization that researches for computer network security. Until now, Nmap continues to grow with a variety of interesting features and make this application a detect security squash on a server.
Nmap is used to scan ports on a computer network. Port is the number used to distinguish between one application and another application on a computer network. Let's say you live in Texas with a 65141 postcode and your friend lives in Washington city with a postal code 40111. This postal code can be analogous to a port to distinguish between Texas and Washington. If on a computer network like an HTTP app using port 80, SMTP uses port 25, FTP uses port 21 and so on. All applications on a computer network must have a port number so that applications can be accessed through ports specified by each application. Analogy, this port is like IP Address, where IP Address serves to distinguish one computer and another computer connected to the computer network, while the port is only used to differentiate application on a network.

On the internet, we can have many tools to scan ports, but to date, none of these tools can offer exciting and sophisticated features like Nmap. Nmap Scripting Engine (NSE) is a Nmap feature that makes it the most widely used tool for many people because in this feature Nmap users can write their own scripts to perform the scan as you wish.
In addition, Nmap also has other apps installed automatically when we install Nmap such as:
1. Zenmap: The graphical interface for Nmap or commonly called the Nmap GUI version.
2. Ndiff: The tool used to compare scanning results in NMAP.
3. Nping: A tool for analyzing data packets
4. Ncrack: The tool used to perform brute force (guessing username and password) login on the network.
5. Ncat: The tool used to read and write data on the network.
Nmap is very important to be mastered by sysadmins. Because by mastering Nmap, sysadmins can scan and supervise the servers they manage. Scanning is done also to find out if there are weaknesses in the network.
